Abstract:
Two cores were collected from the main branch of the Yalu River estuary in this study. The enrichment characteristics, correlation coefficient, principal component, vertical distribution of the content, and characteristic parameters of the macroelements in the two cores were analyzed. Results showed that the Yalu River delta belonged to the flood tidal delta, and the mud accumulation areas in the tide bay began to form in 1960.The sediments in the main branch were multisource. The K12 core was controlled by the particle size, and terrigenous clast was dominant.By contrast, the K1 core was not controlled by the particle size and was considerably affected by the ocean currents. The sedimentary records of the main branch were divided into two sedimentary units by 1978.Strongly transformed by the estuarine hydrodynamics, the sediments in the main branch exhibited many differences and variations compared with the sediments in the source region.Through the analysis of the macroelement deposition records of in the main branch of the Yalu River estuary, the landform evolution rules in the region in the past hundred years were found, and the whole picture of the new land formation process of the Yalu River Estuary was further established.
