Embryonic development of abalone(Haliotis asinine Linnaeus) in the Chinese seas
Abstract:
For promoting and improving mariculture of Haliotis asinine Linnaeus, the embryonic development of the abalone was studied using microtechnique, and the trochelminth larva was observed. The results showed that the embryonic development of H. asinine resembled those of Haliotis discus hannai and Haliotis diversicolor, and was divided into 11 periods of comprising fertilization as follows: the first polar body stage, the second polar body stage, 2-cell stage, 4-cell stage, 8-cell stage, 16-cell stage, 32-cell stage, morula stage, gastrula stage and non-hatched trochelminth larva stage. Under seawater specific gravity 1.024 and water temperature 28℃, the embryonic development of H. asinine needed about 5 and half hours, which developed faster about 1.5 to 2.5 hours than H. discus hannai(seawater specific gravity 1.022~1.023 and water temperature 22.5℃), and half an hour than H. diversicolor(seawater specific gravity 1.022~1.023 and water temperature 24~26℃). The diameter of the matured egg was about 0.18~0.19 mm; the larva had a bundle of vertical seta and two cilia-clitellums.
