THE CHARACTERISTICS AND FORMATION ENVIRONMENT OF COASTAL GRAVEL BED OF SOUTH SHANDONG COAST

Abstract:

The gravel beds of the south Shangdong estuary coast seem to be crescent natural dams or platforms stretching out into the sea with main axis paralles with the coast. The gravel is mainly of hard quartziferous rock, which is smooth and in low sphericity. The sperepellen assemblage reflects that the vegetation was mostly composed of coniferous trees, deciduous shrubs, or ferns growing under subtropic climate. The characteristics of strata fabric and the analyses of its formation conditions, show that the gravel beds of the south shandong coast were formed by wavy action during Holocene high sea-level about 6000-5000 a B. P..
