THE FOOD CONVERSION RATIO(FCR) OF TILAPIA (Oreochromis niloticus ) AND THE EFFECT OF FOOD ON ITS GROWTH, CRUDE PROTEIN AND AMINO ACID CONTENT IN MUSCLE
Abstract:
The food conversion ratio (FCR) of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was observed with six kinds of food respectively. Of which, the FCR of fish meal was the best (1.13); second best was the soybean cake meal (2.75), the peanut cake meal (2.87) and the entermorpha meal (3.00); the sweet potato meal was the worst (9.87). The crude protein content in fish muscle (dry) was not totally dependent on the crude protein content in food. The results of experiments showed that Tilapia had better ability than other fish to convert and utilize plant protein and carbohydrate. It was also found that the growth rate (g/day) rose with the increase of crude protein contents in foods.
