PRELIMINARY STUDY OF A METHOD FOR THE ESTIMATION OF THE THICKNESS OF THE EARTH’S CRUST
Abstract:
The paper mainly discusses how to use the Newton’s Iteration to obtain the coefficients A and B of the Demenitskaya Experimental Formula for calculation of the crust thickness by giving a set of the coefficients for different areas. With this method the crust thickness of the earth can be calculated without the knowledge of density difference between density surfaces which has been a difficult problem for some time. On the other hand, by using different methods the crust thicknesses have, been estimated, compared, and analyzed with the same gravity data at the same profile. The results indicate that the method that uses Newton’s Iteration to get coefficients A and B is not only easy but also feasible, with an estimated thickness accuracy (mean square error) of 0,5 km in a high calculation speed.
