ARTIFICIAL BREEDING OF THE CRAB-PORTUNUS TRITUBERCULATUS
Abstract:
The crab-p. trituberculatus is one of the main marine species raised in our country in recent years. More than 30000 young crabs have been artificially bred since 1982, in the indoor cement ponds. Sterilization, filtration, consecutive deration, water exchange, filthy absorption, etc. are measures used for keeping water clean. Unicellular algae, Brachiorus, napliis of brine shrimp, and organic suspended matter are used as foods for crab larvae. The newly hatched zoea of the crabs can develop into megal-ops by feeding yolks only. But the development is slow. Crab larvae can be fed with the mixture of yolks and live foods. The main cause of low survival rate is the cannibalism in the megalops and young crabs stages. Setting up a hoisting net in pond is a good way for reducing cannibalism.
