Abstract: |
There are four main external sources of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) in the East China Sea, including the Kuroshio, Taiwan Strait, river runoff, and atmospheric deposition. Their combined effects have brought complex impacts on the seasonal variations and spatial distributions of phytoplankton in the East China Sea. Using physical-biological coupled model and tracking module to analyze the effect of different sources of DIN on the temporal and spatial variations of phytoplankton (characterized by chlorophyll a, Chl) and the response relationship between DIN and Chl from various sources in the surface of the East China Sea, so as to evaluate the effects of multi-source nutrients on the surface phytoplankton over the East China Sea shelf. Among the Chl concentrations supported by DIN from different sources, the Kuroshio source and the river runoff source have dominated successively, and except for the river runoff source Chl, the seasonal variation of Chl from the other three sources has a bimodal structure. Different sources of DIN and their supported Chl have distinct seasonal variations and spatial distribution characteristics. Chl supported by different sources of DIN has different dominant regions on the East China Sea shelf, which is related to different DIN supplement processes such as circulation, mixing, stratification and temperature variations. Studying the effects of nutrients from different sources on phytoplankton in the East China Sea is of great significance for understanding the changes of the East China Sea ecosystem under multiple pressures. |
