北太平洋副热带逆流区中尺度涡旋的统计特征及其分布规律

摘要:
基于卫星高度计得到的全球非线性中尺度涡旋数据集,本文分析了北太平洋副热带逆流区(STCC)中尺度涡旋的统计特征。给出了该区域涡旋振幅、半径、旋转速度和罗斯贝数的分布直方图,并利用瑞利分布和对数正态分布对其进行了拟合。结果显示,这些特征的直方图很好地服从于对数正态分布。此外,通过与北太平洋中涡旋的对比研究,我们发现在STCC区的对数正态分布拟合效果更好。本研究提高了对STCC区中尺度涡旋统计特征及概率分布的认识,明确了其与大洋中涡旋的区别,为涡旋的参数化数值模型提供了依据。

Statistical characteristics of mesoscale eddies and their distributions in the North Pacific Subtropical Countercurrent

Abstract:
Based on the satellite altimeter, the global observations of nonlinear mesoscale eddy datasets are analysed to discuss statistical characteristics of the mesoscale eddies in the North Pacific Subtropical Countercurrent (STCC). The histograms of amplitude, radius, rotation speed, and Rossby number of mesoscale eddy in there are given and lognormal distribution were used to fit them. The results showed that the histogram of these features were well approximated by the lognormal distribution. In addition, by comparing with eddies in the North Pacific, we find that the lognormal distribution in the STCC has a better fitting effect. This study improves the understanding of the characteristics and probability distribution of eddies in the STCC, clarifies the difference between them and the oceanic eddy, and provides a basis for the parameterized numerical model of eddies.
